Ahmed Orabi and his British Supporters

Interesting historical fact I have just knew today from the dear blog friend El khan El-Masry by Ahmed Zaharn who lives and studies in London . The historical fact was a surprise not to me only but to all the Egyptian who attended the meeting of Egyptian Committee in Solidarity with Judges in London Yesterday , more information about the meeting is found in El khan El-Masry

The historical fact was told to the attendance by a British lady who is supporting the Egyptian demands of an independent Judiciary

The lady wanted to prove that the British support to Freedom and Democracy in Egypt was always there all the time since very old time , old time that goes to the 1880 and 1882 🙂

To the time of Ahmed Orabi

If you are familiar with the Egyptian Modern History you will be amazed of this fact , Orabi was supported by Britons !!??

Well for those who don’t know first who was Ahmed Orabi

Orabi was an Egyptian Army officer ,who came from El-Sharkia governate , he stood against El-Khadavi Ismael in what was called The Orabi revolution in 1880, a great movement from the army officers demanding the improvements for the conditions of the officers and the army turned in to a public revolution demanding the improvements of the liberal life in Egypt

This revolution already was n’t a threat to Khadavi Ismael where then a threat to the Foreign interests in Egypt especially the British, the British since 1804 and the departure of Napoleon ‘s French expedition from Egypt and they wanted to occupy it in order to secure the way to India , Mohamed Ali stood in their plans and even became the west worst nightmare until now creating the menace of the a great Arabic country after that since 1840 they were trying to put a siege around Egypt that should end in their plans with the existence of their armies in Egypt , of course the Egyptian Rulers at that time ,the weak descendants of Mohamed Ali didn’t have enough brain like him to understand what was really the British Plan and so you will find the External debt of Egypt was very high of course not to be compared like the one we have now , already Ismael Basha built Egypt that until now we live on !!

Back to Orabi and his revolution , Orabi now became a threat as I said to Ismael Basha and the British ,after all he was the man who said in front of Abdeen Palace

"We were born free and We won’t be inherited after this day"

a decoded message I sent to those who understand 🙂 oh boy where is Orabi now ??

Yet the real face of Orabi as a national hero was shown in his resistance against the British Army which tried to invade Egypt in year 1882 by all possible ways , yet they failed until they had to come from the Suez Canal by a dirty lie . I am proud that my great grand father exactly the grand dad of my grand dad had a role in the last battle the Egyptian Army stood against the British Army in it that is "The Battle of El-Kabir Hill , El-Tal El-Kabir , I will tell you about it later ", they are many wonderful stories like Toshka battle many or the majority of Egyptians don’t, I may tell you about it later

Of course Orabi was captured and despite the great hate of the British Authorities yet they couldn’t get rid of him for fear of the public anger so they didn’t hang him or torture him

Now to the real historical surprise Ahmed Orabi was popular in the UK and that the Egyptian cause was viewed as a Just cause at that time and his popularity was to the extent that English lawyers volunteered to travel to Egypt to defend him against the Imperialist British occupation.

Very interesting I never knew this before 🙂

what happened to Orabi after that , well more and more interesting things ,wait and I will tell about it in another Egyptian night
